How to Stay in Shape Working from Home

I need to tell you that I earn commissions if you shop through the links on this page.

If you were like me and stayed on active duty for 20 years, do you realize that when you retired you were only 12 years away from 50? Hells bells, that has come and gone already!

Depending on the type of job you get when you move from active duty to civilian life that will have a big part to play on you maintaining your fitness.

I’m sorry, but that’s bullshit!

That’s my way of rationalizing why I went from 185# to 234# of sheer FAT!!!

Don’t let it be yours!

You have to make time in your daily routine to exercise at least 30 minutes 3 times a week, MINIMUM!

Lucky for you this is about how to stay in shape working from home. You have full control of your schedule and how you use your time.

In my case, I have several options.

  1. I can wake up after taking my thyroid medicine, an hour before breakfast, instead of laying back down for another hour of sleep.
  2. I can go for a 30-minute walk after having lunch.
  3. I can go for a 30-minute walk after dinner.

So, I have three opportunities to get out there and exercise. How about you?

These past few weeks I have been pretty good about getting a 30-45 minute walk in almost every day. I’m trying to get in a habit of doing it before the weather turns cold and I find another excuse for not doing it.

You know, that’s all you need to do at a minimum is just get outside and go for a walk. One of the best ways is to walk in one direction for 15 minutes. Then, if you decide you want to go home you have at least another 15 minutes to walk home.

Well, what about bad weather or rainy weather? Great question!

You have two options, 1) put on some rain gear and get to it or 2) how about going up and down the stairs?

There are more options than that, when you think about it and stop making excuses. Something cheap that takes up little space is a jump rope. Do that for even 15 minutes and you’ll have a much harder workout that 30 minutes of walking.

Well, what if you want to do something more than just walking? What if you don’t want to lose muscle mass after leaving the service? Or, what if you’ve been out of the service for quite a while and you want to gain back your muscle mass because the older you get the more important it will be for your health?

You are in luck! I’ve just started a workout series and have published the 1st video, which is a warmup video for those like me who are really out of shape. I have it so you can do the whole warmup, which is a rendition of the Marine Corps daily 7. At least, that’s what we did in the 80s and 90s.

The next videos I published are whole body workout videos you can do from home, a hotel room, or your front yard with no equipment needed. It’s you and your own body weight. You can go direct to that page “Full Body Workout At Home Without Weights” listing 5 (so far) full body workout videos or you can watch level 1 right below:

Like the warmup video, it will start out “easy” and as I get in better shape, week to week, I will increase the repetitions of the exercises that I’m doing. That way we will continue to build muscle mass as we go along. We’ve worked up through level 3 so far.

Now, you have no excuses. You don’t need to go to a gym and pay high prices for membership! You don’t need to buy your own gym equipment to take up the space of one of your rooms. You can do these exercises anywhere, so even if your work at home job requires travel you can still do them.

Believe me, when you get in your fifties if you don’t exercise you will actually feel worse from lack of exercise than any muscle soreness you get when recovering from exercises.

And, if you are like me you will start to eat better because you are working out and you know your body needs a healthy diet to repair itself while you are sleeping. Oh! That’s another thing! You will actually sleep better and be more alert in the daytime once you start a regular schedule of exercise.

Just to let you know my plans for the workouts; as I said above I’ll be making more “Exercise at Home without Weights” videos. I’ve made an “Easy Workouts to do at Home for Beginners” video;

and later a “Full Body Workout at Home for Beginners with Dumbbells” video.

Additionally, to help support my making these videos I’ll be doing Product Reviews in general and reviewing specifically the “Best Supplements for Men to Build Muscle.”

resistance bands

So, I hope to see you join me on my journey to stay in shape working from home and enjoy exercise fitness over 50!

I’ll be setting up the routines so they’ll be easier to follow on Full Body Workout Routines at Home, now that I’m setting up the website.

Did you have a favorite routine you used to do for a full body workout? Are you trying to figure out how to do a full body workout without weights or without equipment?

Let me know in the comments below and I’ll see what I can do to help!

Cheers!

There is a saying that a body motion stays in motion and a good workout program will do that for us. We need to exercise because this is what keeps us healthy even walking for 30 minutes a day can help us in so many ways.

Absolutely! And, I see that so much more clearly in my 50s. After an hour of sitting at my desk doing my computer job I start getting stiff and sore. One needs to walk around at least once an hour. I’ll be building out several exercise routines that can be done from home over the next few weeks on my YouTube channel, check it out when you have time. http://bit.ly/LWWorkoutVids

Thanks for sharing these routines. I am up at 430am and do a vigorous workout for 20 to 25 minutes with pushups, yoga, windsprints, stretches, and jumping jacks. Then some meditation and study. This gets me ready for my business day. Although I am in my late 60s, I feel like each day is a new beginning and why I am known as “The Un-Retired Entrepreneur”. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us. All the Best.
